14. MJOLNIR CAMEO
The first Thor film was still in the fledgling days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they weren’t afraid of jam packing it with easter eggs and references. We all spotted the (now confirmed as fake) Infinity Gauntlet in Odin’s vault for example! But a minor detail comes when Mjolnir actually lands in New Mexico.
J. Michael Straczynski makes a very brief appearance as the first man to attempt to pull Mjolnir out of the ground. But even though he co-wrote the story of the film, and is also a legendary comic book writer, he still wasn’t worthy enough to pick up Thor’s hammer. Funnily enough, another cameo comes from Stan Lee later on in a similar situation involving a truck and a chain. Perhaps it’s a trial of comic book writers, to see who’s the best.
13. ED BRUBAKER
Whilst Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the most popular MCU movies amongst fans and critics alike, we have Ed Brubaker to thank for originally writing the storyline that it’s based on. Brubaker was the writer who brought Bucky back from the dead in the “Winter Soldier” story arc.
But when Bucky is being brainwashed by Hydra in a bank vault (because why not), one of the scientists that is attending to him is Ed Brubaker himself. It must’ve been a very bizarre feeling for Brubaker, walking on set of a film that primarily exists because of a storyline that he wrote. It’s a Stan Lee type cameo, and we’re completely here for it. Marvel should start putting iconic artists in their films too — it’s only fair!
